Etienne is a former Research Fellow at London Business School. He completed his PhD in Economics in 2021 at the Maison des Sciences Economiques (Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University).
His research interests are in economic history, development economics, and culture. Specifically, Etienne is interested in the origins and consequences of different institutions, including property rights, trust, beliefs, and the legacies of different forms of colonialism.
For its business contribution to development, the Wheeler Institute has awarded funding to Etienne’s research on the effect of education quality on democracy.
