bio

Rebecca de Simone is an Assistant Professor with the Finance Department at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. She is also a Research Affiliate for the Banking and Corporate Finance Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research.
Previously she was Assistant Professor of Finance at London Business School, and completed a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Finance at Columbia Business School and a BA in Economics and minors in Mathematics and Classics Studies at the University of Florida. 

Rebecca De Simone’s research focuses on the intersection of corporate governance and public finance and on small business and household finance, especially in emerging markets.

She was awarded the AQR Asset Management Institute at London Business School a Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence for a study using data from Ecuador to show that government tax audits can improve firm value, ultimately reducing the cost of borrowing for audited firms and stimulating firm investment.

 

As part of the Call for Proposals November 2020, the Wheeler Institute has awarded funding to Dr De Simone’s research on the interaction of formal and informal debt for its business contribution to development.
